Selfishness will ultimately haunt those who take others for granite
“How Selfishness was Rewarded” from the indigenous tribe, the Tlingit, portrays a vital lesson that can be understood by all ages: selfish ways of people will have an atrocious retribution to pay. The young woman displays the characteristics of being greedy and selfish. It is apparent when she is caught eating fish at a time when no men could catch any. She sneaks around at night so no one realizes what she’s up to like an owl stalking a prey. When she realizes that her secret has been discovered, she flees from the family. It is clear that she didn’t contemplate her actions because she could have made it up to her family and everything would have been good, but she doesn’t foresight her future. What she doesn’t know is what the future has in store for her and it wasn’t in her favor. Her lack of thinking brings hardship to the family and the husband is forced to retrieve his wife. All humans have a knack for being greedy and selfish and we often don’t think what price we will pay if we act that way. It is evident that if we don’t take responsibility for our action and try to help improve the well being of others than there will be a hefty price to pay.
